Kent variety, grown in the Glenmalure section of Ngila Estate at 1,500–1,600 m.a.s.l. Cherries are hand-sorted, pulped, and fermented as parchment for 12 hours. After washing, the beans are dried on raised beds for 8 to 13 days depending on the weather. Water for processing comes from the Endoro stream, fed by the Ngorongoro National Park.

Ngila Estate sits on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater in Karatu District, northern Tanzania. The farm was established by a German settler in the early 20th century, later passed to British ownership, and purchased by Rudolf Meyer in 1992 — at that point just 30 hectares of neglected trees. Today, under director Vera Stücker, it spans 100 hectares with around 150,000 coffee trees. The Glenmalure section is dedicated to specialty production. Ngila borders a 50-hectare forest corridor used by elephants and other local wildlife, and has planted 4,000–5,000 indigenous trees annually since 2004. The estate is Rainforest Alliance Certified. Many of its 100 permanent staff have worked there for over 30 years.

Karatu District, Tanzania

Karatu sits on the southern slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, at elevations between 1,500 and 1,800 meters. Volcanic soils, cool temperatures, and reliable rainfall make it one of the more naturally suited Arabica-growing areas in East Africa.

The district has supported coffee farming for over a century, with several established estates operating alongside conservation land. Clean water sources fed by the highland forests run through many of these farms, influencing both processing and flavor. Washed coffees from Karatu are known for their clarity and brightness — the Kent variety, in particular, thrives in these conditions.
